NHP Site Licensing
Companies that manufacture, package, label and/or import natural health products (NHPs) require a Site Licence according to Section 27 of the Natural Health Product Regulations. (A Site Licence is different from a Product Licence - learn more about NHP product licensing here).
Issued by the Natural and Non-Prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) of Health Canada, a Site Licence not only permits companies to legally sell NHPs they have manufactured, packaged, labelled and/or imported under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), it also ensures the Canadian NHP market consists of safe and high quality products.
Obtaining a Site Licence involves a review of a site's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated documentation against the NHP GMPs. Appropriate standards and practices must be in place with regards to specifications, premises, equipment, personnel, sanitation, operations, quality assurance, stability, records, sterile produces, lot or batch samples and recall reporting, where applicable.
